Financial Planning for Clients Across Texas and 25 Other States

One Team, Wherever You Live

JTL Wealth Partners was founded in Plano in 1994, and our headquarters is still there today. But our clients are not limited to one city. We work with individuals, families, and business owners throughout Texas, as well as clients in 25 other states.

Outside Texas, we currently serve clients in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington.

Wherever you live, you get the same independent, CFP®-led planning built on our promise: Retirement, Simplified.

How Working With Us Remotely Works

  • A complimentary discovery meeting by video or phone to understand your goals and whether we are a good fit.
  • A written financial plan covering cash flow, investments, taxes, retirement, and protection.
  • Ongoing investment management from our team, aligned with your plan.
  • Regular reviews by video or phone, at our Plano headquarters, or on Saturdays by appointment.

Our team, led by Chris Mankoff, CFP®, acts as an investment fiduciary in advisory relationships, and securities and advisory services are offered through LPL Financial.

Moving to Texas, or Moving Between States?

Many of our clients have relocated for career opportunities or retirement, whether to Texas from a higher-tax state or from one state to another. A move can create real planning opportunities, but it also comes with details that are easy to miss:

  • Establishing residency in your new state and understanding your final-year tax obligations in your former state.
  • Deciding whether to sell or rent a home in your previous state.
  • Updating estate documents for your new state with an attorney licensed there. Texas, for example, is a community property state.
  • Reviewing relocation packages, signing bonuses, and new benefits elections.
  • Redirecting savings when your state income tax situation changes.

We coordinate with your CPA and attorney to make the transition as smooth as possible.

JTL Wealth Partners and LPL Financial do not provide tax or legal advice.

Equity Compensation and Corporate Careers

If you receive RSUs, stock options, or ESPP shares, we help you build a strategy for when to hold, when to sell, and how to manage taxes and concentration risk, all connected to your bigger financial picture, no matter where your employer is based.

Young, High-Income Families: Balancing Today and Tomorrow

Many of our clients are in their peak earning and child-raising years. Balancing a mortgage, childcare, college savings, and retirement contributions can feel like a juggling act. We help you prioritize, so you are not choosing between your kids’ future and your own. That includes evaluating 529 plans (and, for Texas families, the Texas Tuition Promise Fund), maximizing workplace retirement plans and HSAs, and making sure life and disability insurance protect your family’s income.

Thinking Ahead to Retirement, Even Early in Your Career

Retirement may feel far away, but the decisions you make in your 30s and 40s have an outsized impact. We help you choose between traditional and Roth contributions, take full advantage of employer matches, consider backdoor Roth strategies when income limits apply, and build a taxable investment account for goals that come before 59½. Small, consistent steps now can give you much more flexibility later, whether that means retiring early, changing careers, or starting a business of your own.

I just moved to a new state. Where should I start?

What should I do with my RSUs?

It depends on your tax situation, goals, and how much of your net worth is tied to company stock. We help you build a strategy and coordinate with your CPA.
